In an interview with PTI a few years ago, Karan said that the film is similar to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He said in the interview, “I did go through phases of evolution as a filmmaker. But right during the pandemic, I felt I just needed to make a movie that made me feel like I was 25 again. “And when I was 25, the only movie I could think of or make was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, because it was like an accumulation of all the movies that I had grown up watching. It’s a homage to Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra, Sooraj Barjatya.”

Earlier a teaser of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was released which not only featured Alia and Ranveer but also their co-stars Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra. The film’s title was then spelled differently, and in addition to revealing the changed spelling in the new posters, it was also reported that the film would be released on Prime Video after its theatrical release.
